EMBC Scholarships

The following scholarships are available to graduating high school students who are members of Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church.

S. L. Badger, Jr. Education Fund

Rev. Solomon L. Badger, Jr. and the Emanuel family established the Education Fund to assist in providing educational opportunities for our young people

The Rev. S. L. Badger, Jr. Education Fund serves 2 distinct purposes:

1.Aid students enrolled in an accredited college or university. This

assistance can be requested for books, tuition, or room and board.

2.Provide funds to deserving high school graduates. The criteria are established in the

following areas: academics, service to the church and leadership.

Susan M. Badger Education Award

The Susan M. Badger Education Award is dedicated to the memory of Susan Moffit Badger, who served as First Lady and fervent worker in Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church for over 46 years.  Because her family history included some pioneer educators who were “credentialed” to teach in the South USA, post slavery; supported by a firm belief that EDUCATION would always be the catalyst for change and progress for our people, she supported public school education by serving as an active, long-term volunteer.  She also encouraged four of her six children to pursue careers in education.

For those reasons, this award is to be offered expressly to a graduate (current year) who has expressed an interest and demonstrates an effort to pursue a teaching degree, a teaching certificate, and a teaching career in the field of EDUCATION.

Tiwana Flagg-Martin Scholarship

Tiwana Flagg-Martin was a dedicated educator who exemplified leadership and compassion in educating our youth. She was committed to the values of quality journalism, free expression, and community service which she served diligently.

This scholarship is awarded to a high school senior pursuing an education in a degreed program or technical career. This is a one-year, non-renewable scholarship in the amount of $500.00.

Deacon E. Tyrone Davis Scholarship

Deacon E. Tyrone Davis Scholarship was established in 2019 with contributions from E. Tyrone Davis family to support post-secondary educational opportunities for current members. This scholarship is dedicated to students who exemplify leadership in the classroom, on the athletic field and in their place of worship.

The scholarship may be awarded to deserving graduating high school seniors who are current, attending members of Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL.  The scholarship will be awarded annually in the amount of $500.00 to a full-time student attending a four-year college/university or a community college.  The scholarship will be applied to the cost of undergraduate tuition, fees, room, board, and other college expenses.

Ruth Green Wright Education Scholarship

Ruth Green Wright was an educator and believed in education. She made sure that her children were given the opportunity to continue their education.  She also made sure that her grandchildren were also awarded the same. She also encouraged anyone that she encountered to continue their education because it was important to become successful in life.

For those reasons, this award is to be offered expressly to a graduate (current year) who has expressed an interest and demonstrates an effort to pursue a teaching degree, a teaching certificate, and a teaching career in the field of EDUCATION. This is a one-year, non-renewable scholarship in the amount of $500.00.
